Board Candidates

We have 7 candidates for 3 open slots on the CCA board. All club members should have received an email with info about how to access the online voting system. Contact Neil Pifer if you have any questions or issues with the online voting system. Photos and short bios of each candidate are below (in alphabetical order by last name). Voting will close April 8th at 6:00pm. Thank you to all of these candidates for your willingness to serve!

Phil Claxton

Phil Claxton

I have been with Charlotte Curling Association since 2014 (I play on Monday and Thursday nights). My background is in Financial Services having worked for large banks and brokerage firms. I have experience serving on company boards as well as having held C-Level positions in finance, compliance, and strategy. Recently, I was one of the founders of the online brokerage, TradeKing, which we sold to Ally Financial. Today, I am mentoring three small businesses at Innovate Charlotte. I believe my business experience and financial skills would be an asset to the Board. Should you elect me, I would be proud to serve on the board for the benefit of you, the membership.

Dana Derylak

Dana Derylak

Dana is a NC Real Estate Broker and has a background in Homebuilding with expertise in Online Marketing, Lead Management and Sales. She has been curling since February of 2018 with her husband and mixed doubles partner Tim. Dana enjoys long walks down the sheets, take outs, and broomstacking.

I understand the three main focus areas of CCA are 1) membership growth 2) member development and 3) keeping the lights on. I believe my past experience as both Councilman and Mayor Pro Tem for the Town of Troutman has demonstrated an ability to consider initiatives, work as part of a team, and be part of leading with the same perspective. I currently play on Tuesday and Friday nights, while subbing on Sundays, Saturdays, and Mondays as available. My very first time stepping on the ice was this past August when I was asked to be the student in the LTC instruction video. I was hooked! I believe my relative newcomer status would afford me the ability to represent the new member base, ultimately helping drive the future of the club going forward. I have been so impressed by the sense of community our club offers our members and would welcome the opportunity to grow that even more.

Kyle Marcum

Kyle Marcum

Hello! I am Kyle Marcum and I have been a member of the Charlotte Curling Association for 5 years. I am an avid baker, loving dog father, and curling fanatic. I discovered the sport of curling by driving past the curling club in my moving truck while relocating to Charlotte from Chattanooga, TN. Over the past years, I have played in a variety of leagues and truly developed a love for the sport and the curling community. I hope with my experience as a CPA, running leagues and bonspiels (Saturday Saints, Sunday Sinners, and Hogline 500), and my passion for curling will prove to be a true asset to the Charlotte Curling Association. Thank you for considering me for the board.

Steve McKee

Steve McKee

Steve is a founding member, was president before we we moved to dedicated ice, through to now. Steve would like to run one more time on the board, and work with the board to ensure that his passing of the baton to the next president allows both for the longevity of the CCA in general, and continuity in its leadership.

Terri Meadows

Terri Meadows

Hey y'all. I am a local girl, born and raised in Concord, NC. I have been curling for 2 years now. I love being a member of CCA. The sport itself is amazing and the people that curl are the 'gravy on the biscuit'.

Joseph Moore

Joseph Moore

Curlers! My name is Joseph Moore. I have been a member of CCA since February of 2018, although I have been a fan of curling for 10 years (probably longer if I had found out about it sooner). When I'm not at the curling club, I'm usually at a bar/brewery or at work. I am also a diehard NC State and Washington Redskins fan! HTTR! CCA has become a second home for me, and I consider the members to be family. Thanks for taking the time to read. Good Curling!
