Sunday Sinners Mixed Doubles League

When

The Sunday Sinners Mixed Doubles league has two curling draws (9am and 10:30am), with Crokinole matches after each draw. There will be a Sunday Sinners league in the Fall and Spring sessions. Teams in this league will be in the mixed doubles format, and if you would prefer an open doubles league, please check out Wednesday night.

  • If you are assigned ice, then arrive 30-45 minutes prior to the 9am draw time in order to help prepare the ice and so we can start on time. Ice will only be done for the earliest draw.
  • If you are assigned bar, then bar will only be for the late draw (or between the draws) due to ALE rules of not serving before 10am on Sunday.

Registration is open to members of the Charlotte Curling Association. Leagues are intended for adults (18 years or older). Curlers 14 years or older can curl in regular adult leagues with parental permission. Please contact the League Coordinator to discuss.

Open Spots

32 individual spots (16 teams) - The members of each team must be one of each gender.

Format

This league is a mixed doubles Curling and Crokinole challenge. There is a max of 16 mixed doubles team spots (32 individuals). All curling and Crokinole skill levels are encouraged to play. Prior league experience is not necessary and all genders are eligible. Register as a pair or contact the league commissioner with help creating a rink. This league is planned for 9 weeks in the Fall and 12 weeks in the Spring.

Curling Rules

Curling games are a maximum 1.5 hours or 8 ends. Ties will be broken by a 9th end (or draw shot if time does not allow). Timing rules are in effect as we ask that teams not start a new end with less than 10 minutes left. Choice of hammer proceeds as normal after the 8th end. Rinks must be comprised of at least 1 of the regular team members or a forfeit results unless a make-up game has been arranged. A game may be played as "practice" on that sheet. All rescheduled matches are the responsibility of the 2 teams and pictures of the final score should be emailed to league commissioners.

Crokinole Rules

Each rink will play a game of Crokinole against their opponent. Games will be to 100 points. This game will count for 2 points in the league standings.

Scoring and League Standings

Standings will be calculated by curling and crokinole wins.  Winning the curling match will result in 8 points and winning crokinole will result in 2 points in the standings.  Ties in the standings will be broken by head-to-head curling records and then by a single game playoff.  Seeding can be determined by a coin toss if all tie breakers are exhausted.

A playoff for the top teams will be scheduled to determine the Sunday Sinners season champion.  These playoffs are meant to be a party and celebration of the end of the season with curling and a potluck lunch.  Everyone is welcome to attend to watch curling, play crokinole, eat delicious food, and enjoy league social time.
