Wow – so much has happened with the Charlotte Curling Club since our last post…
If you have been following us closely, you know that we have been waiting (not so patiently) for our rocks to arrive. Well – they came last week! We will be posting pics soon of the big delivery day process. It was actually quite a big deal to get them all unloaded, unpacked, labeled, and stored away – at least thats what I hear. Jay & I both had to be out of town for our day jobs and had to miss the excitement, but Jim, Eric, Geoff, and Kelli carried the flag and made sure the rocks made their way to their new storage boxes safely.
Last night (4/10) we had our first chance to put those new rocks into play. We had a great LTC event and saw some very impressive first-timers on the ice. We have two more events left before we take some time off for league play over the summer. There are still a few slots left in the 4/24 and 5/8 sessions so sign up now by replying to this post or sending an email to charlottecurling@gmail.com asap with participant names to secure your spot.
Also, the original 24 slots in our summer league are now full. We are taking names for a waiting list. What this means is that if we have 7 more people express interest in the summer league (we need 8 players, but already have 1 on the wait list) we will consider buying a 4th set of rocks to allow us to have 4 sheets of play. If you wish to put your name on the waiting list, please post a message here and we will followup with you via email.
We also need folks to sign up as league substitutes. Basic membership entitles you to be on the substitute list for league play. We already know of several dates during our summer league play when substitutes will be needed. In order to be considered as a substitute, please send your Basic Membership form in as soon as possible.
And last, but certainly not least…. Committees. We have a few members that have already volunteered to take lead on the Fundraising Committee – Thanks Stacie and Carol! We would like to establish a Membership Committee as soon as possible too. If you are interested in helping out in one of these areas, or have other skills you can bring to the club, please let me know! This is a non-profit organization so we would certainly appreciate the opportunity to exploit any skills/interests our members (or fans) have.
