Lines, Circles, and Games – Oh My!

Holy Hog Lines! They are in! Who would have thought a year ago that we would have curling sheets in Charlotte, NC?

Well they are here and are not going anywhere. Well, I guess they could be taken out, but it would be a pain to do it. It was actually a lot of fun putting them in last night. We started around 7pm and finished about 1 am with lines. We stayed for the first flood to make sure it went okay, which it did, and that got us out of there by 2:30am. It would have been sooner, but we needed an extra length of hose so we were able to go on one of those early morning trips to Walmart – oh the things you’ll see… Our ice buddy with PIH just got a new Vespa so I got to try it out while we waited for water to freeze – it was awesome. Oh, but this post is about curling, so let me get back to the topic.

Yes – we have circles, backlines, teelines, hoglines, and one centre line (we’re testing the method out and may put in the other 3 later). Check out the photos on the site for all the shots.

The night before, we had a pre-league social and learning event. It was heavier on the social aspect than the learning I would say, but isn’t that what this game is all about?

So our first game is this Saturday – June 5th. We are going to kick curling in Charlotte, NC off in style. We get the ice at 4:20pm. We’ll get everything ready for play (pebbling, rock placement, hacks) and then at 4:45pm we will officially start. Festivities start with a bagpiper and then a ceremonial shot (both the drink and the rock). Please come out and be a part of the fun, whether you are a league player, general member, or just interested. Most all of us were ‘just interested’ this time last year – and look where we are now!
