Getting Started…

Okay so here’s where we are right now with getting things going….

We have some feelers out to local ice rinks to organize some ice time. We hope to have that finalized in the next few weeks. Once we do that, we will be planning our very first Learn to Curl (LTC) event!!! That is where you get some classroom time (don’t worry – its very informal and brief) to learn the basics of the sport and then get out on the ice and give it a try.

In the mean time, we are still getting some ice time with our friends in Raleigh. We will be attending Triangle Curling LTC events on both Thursday, February 4th and Friday, March 5th. Both events will start at 8:30pm and last a couple of hours.  More to come as we get closer to those dates. Let us know if you are interested in joining us for a roadtrip, but stay tuned for a local Learn to Curl session as soon as we land on dates.

I am interested in trying curling!!! I have been a fan since the earliest olympics I can remember…1980. We watched in awe and this simple, slow but completely mesmerizing sport!

I live in the upstate South Carolina so Charlotte is about an hour and a half away. I’ve wanted to try curling for a while. I’m only 14 so I will need to convince my mom that I want to take up curling. I wonder how that conversation will go.

This would be so awesome to try. I have always thought about learning to curl. I would love to have more info on when you will be holding events.

Thank you All for your posts! I am behind in responding because it has been a little crazy this week with the all the interest the Olympics is generating. Jay had a quick interview yesterday on WBT1110AM, the Columbia NBC affiliate was up on Tuesday to tape a story, and the Charlotte Observer will be printing a story on curling and the club tomorrow.

It is so exciting to see all this interest. We were concerned there may not be enough interest to support the program, but obviously that is not the case. We’ll be posting the date for the LearnToCurl as soon as our rocks arrive. I can’t wait to see you all there – and Randy maybe you can convince your mom that she would enjoy it too ;) !

Thanks for all of your hard work in getting the curling club started. I am very interested in becoming a member. I became a huge fan of curling when I lived in Halifax and Toronto during my youth in the 60′s, and I am glad to see the sport continuing to grow here in the USA. Please add me to your email list. Thanks again.

I have a group in Greensboro that is interested in Curling. We will be attending the Learn to Curl in Raleigh on March 14th. We would also be interested in supporting a Charlotte club. It is about the same distance to either place for us. Consider starting a Sunday afternoon League. We would support it.
