We have a couple of short reminders for this week.

Annual Meeting & Elections

Please remember to vote! If you haven’t mailed your ballot to the address at the bottom of the form, you can bring it SEALED to the annual meeting. The meeting will be held Friday, May 17th, at 7 PM (right before league) at XIC and will last about 30 minutes.

Ice Prep Meeting

Jay will be holding an Ice Prep Meeting on Saturday, May 18th, at 1:30 PM at the Brickhouse Tavern in Davidson (http://brickhousetavern.com). Anyone interested in being part of the Ice & Equipment Committee can attend; the goal is to ensure there is coverage by the committee at any event (leagues, LTCs, bonspiels, corporate events, etc.) to produce consistent ice.

Reflections on the Charlotte HotShots Curling Camp

From April 26 to April 28 curlers from around the south joined us at the Xtreme Ice Center in Indian Trail, NC for the Charlotte HotShots Curling Camp. Everything that led up to this weekend couldn’t prepare us for the fantastic time that we had and for the top-notch instruction, expert coaching, and dedicated professionals who gave everything they had to make our group of curlers better than they thought they could ever be.

We couldn’t be more grateful to Paul Balabuck, Janet Murphy, Nicole Joraanstad, Earle Morris, Cindy Bishop, Wendy Morgan, our friend Debbie McCormick, and of course Dave Gravelle!

There’s so much more to say and a lot more to see.

In this post are three excerpts of thoughts and reflections on our camp. Two from the Charlotte Curling Club members who were most instrumental in making this weekend a reality and one from Dixon Freeman, the Charlotte Camp’s Pat O Reid Achievement Award winner! Coming Soon! The Bonspiel Newswire

The many Curling Clubs across the country do a terrific job keep their partner clubs in the GNCC informed of upcoming Bonspiels. And since we get a lot of notices about upcoming bonspiels, we thought that a featured area might be a nice idea.

So coming soon, the website will have a Bonspiel Newswire page where other clubs can submit information on their events and where our members can find out about them.

To kick things off, The Mount Washington Valley Curling Club in Conway, NH will be hosting their Mount Washington Valley Open Bonspiel from September 20th through September 22nd. Here’s the link if you’re interested in finding out more! New Hampshire is gorgeous in the fall!

Update - No 1712 Cup on the 4th. But we hope to see our SC friends as soon as possible!

The Charlotte Centre Curling Club needs you! We need two leads for the 1712 Cup on May 4th. The event is at 4:45pm in Greenville, SC. It’s free! And it’s always a fun time. You know you want to do it. Your club needs you! North Carolina needs you! Your country needs you!! OK, that last one was a bit over the top. If you want to participate and fill one of these two positions, you can contact Jeremy or send an email to charlottecurling@gmail.com to express your interest.

Our 2nd annual Grits ‘n Granite Bonspiel is officially sold out!

But you can still register for the wait list. Just go to the registration page and enter your information. Though we’re no longer taking payments, the teams on the wait list will be included on a first come-first served basis if we have openings.

We couldn’t be more excited about this event and we want to offer our thanks to all of the teams from all over who’re getting ready for a trip to the south for some great curling and great southern hospitality!

Established in 2010, The Charlotte Centre Curling Club brings the camaraderie and gentility of this ancient sport to the gentile south!

We have events ranging from league play to learn-to-curl sessions and some of the most fun bonspiels you’ll find in the south! And in 2013, we’ll be the first arena ice location for the Hotshots Curling Camp!
