We are proud and honored to have the most decorated curler in U.S. history help us kick off our first-ever bonspiel. Debbie McCormick, along with her husband Pete, will play in the inaugural Grits ‘n’ Granite bonspiel this August 10-12. They also went one step further and offered to auction off the other two spots on their team with all proceeds to benefit the club. The winning bid went to our own Jay and Ronda Harlow and all four will form the team “No Grits, No Glory” and become a formidable contender for the bonspiel championship.
Debbie is the most-accomplished curler in U.S. curling history. She skipped the U.S. women’s team to their first World Championship gold medal in 2003, and won the silver medal twice; as Skip in 2006 and as an alternate in 1996. She’s a 3-time Olympian, a 7-time U.S. National Champion and a 4-time U.S. Junior National Champion. Her husband Pete is also an accomplished world-class curler.
The bonspiel runs from Friday, August 10 through Sunday, August 12 at the Extreme Ice Center and is open to the public. First draw on Friday is at 11:00AM. First draw for Team McCormick is Friday at 5:45PM. The full weekend draw schedule can be found here.
